Associate Engineer – Contract Position

Overview

  • The Associate Engineer will be responsible for investigating the characteristics of RF propagation in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) ductwork.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Analyze and model the propagation of RF in HVAC ductwork by collaboratively working with Engineering and other key work partners
  • Develop and execute RF test plans
  • Collect and measure data
  • Investigate dependencies and linkages between propagation and different RF frequencies and transmission technologies and protocols (i.e., WLAN, LTE, CDMA)
  • Characterize and model smart antenna techniques (i.e., MIMO) and the placement of antennas in ductwork given various ducting geometries and materials
  • Identify and assess the impact of ductwork obstructions on the propagation of RF in ducts
  • Model throughput and bandwidth in ductwork given different propagation techniques using statistical analysis tools
  • Interpret and summarize test findings to create a comprehensive report based on the research above
  • Generate high-level planning guidelines for field engineering use that maximizes the propagation of different RF technologies in different types of ductwork
  • Understand link budget implications given different RF frequencies (capacity and coverage)
  • Develop installation rules for different RF technologies

Preferred Experience

  • One year experience in product management or systems engineering
  • One year experience in HVAC systems, including air handlers, ductwork, packaged systems and ancillary systems (VAV's, re-heats)
  • Two years experience in the telecom (wireless/wire line) or construction industry
  • Design engineering or tactical planning responsibilities
  • Prior experience in Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) networks a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office Tools GIS and CAD and statistical analysis a plus
  • Ability to work independently and in an environment requiring climbing, reaching, and the use of test measurement tools.
